SPIKE—Students and Parents Involved in Kids’ Education—is an Oakhurst reading program established by former principal Kelly Kennedy in 1998. The program encourages students to develop strong reading habits with support from their families.
To participate, students read for at least 20 minutes on 20 days each month and record their progress on a SPIKE reading log. Students who consistently complete and return their logs are recognized twice during the school year with a free book—a fun reward that helps encourage a lifelong love of reading!
