Oakhurst PTA SPIKE

Hi kids Remember me? Well in case you are new to the school or have never become familiar with my face, let me introduce myself.

I am SPIKE! I am the mascot for the reading program at Oakhurst Elementary School. My name stands for Students and Parents Involved in Kid’s Education.

Your PTA is proud to once again sponsor this program for you. My job is to encourage you to read as often possible.

• Each month you will receive a SPIKE calendar.
• Every day that you read for at least twenty minutes, have an adult family member initial that date on your calendar.
• The first week of each new month, you will turn in your completed calendar with twenty minutes for twenty days to your teacher (signed by your parent or guardian.)
• To help you track your progress at home, I’d like to give you a bookmark. After you turn in your calendar, you may mark your accomplishments with a sticker next to the corresponding month. This is to celebrate with your family and I won’t need it back.
• After completing and returning three months worth of reading I will give you a free book. Keep reading and after five completed months you get another free book, but wait there’s more. After seven completed months you get ANOTHER free book.

Additionally, the classrooms can win books for their libraries based on how many of their students participate.

The top five classes will be presented with the SPIKE mascot, to keep in their rooms until the next calendar count.

Finally, all students who complete eight approved calendars get to come to an end of the year party with games, snacks, inflatable's and much more! Most importantly, all my readers get the best gift of all…improved academic skills!
